Netflix had started testing a new cheap subscription plan in India as Netflix wants to take on the competition.
Netflix had made this plan available for some subscribers. The plan supports HD streaming across Mobiles,Tablets and computers. The plan does not support TV. The new plan costs Rs. 349.
The testing of the new plan was spotted by AndroidPure. The plan is introduced after a year of the launch of Netflix’s cheapest plan yet. The Netflix cheapest mobile plan costs Rs.199. The plan is mobile-only means the access of the user is restricted to the mobile. The streaming quality of this plan is restricted to 480p (SD Quality).
Basic subscription plan of Netflix costs Rs. 499 and gives access to one device at a time. Streaming quality of this plan is restricted to 480p.
Standard subscription plan of Netflix costs Rs.649. The plan gives access to two devices. The stream quality of the plan is HD.
Premium subscription plan of Netflix costs Rs.799. The plan gives access to four devices and the streaming quality of the plan is 4K.
Netflix has raised it’s monthly subscription cost in the US but has been introducing cheaper plans in India to take on competition by the Amazon Prime, Disney+Hotstar, Zee5 etc. whose prices are relatively lower to the Netflix.
American OTT giant Netflix always works on new strategies to gain momentum in developing markets. Netflix had gained thousands of paid subscribers during lockdown in India.
Last week Netflix announced 17 original shows and movies that will be released in the next few months in India. Netflix targeted to earn $420 million by producing and licensing content in India by the end of 2020.
